Police and Community Consultative Group

YOUR VIEWS COUNT

THE POLICE PLAY AN IMPORTANT PART IN ENSURING YOUR QUALITY OF LIFE, BUT THEY CANNOT CARRY OUT THEIR WORK IN ISOLATION AND NEED TO HEAR THE VIEWS AND CONCERNS OF THE PUBLIC. NINE MEETINGS A YEAR ARE HELD TO PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS ASPECTS OF POLICING THROUGHOUT THE BOROUGH WITH SENIOR POLICE OFFICERS.

ALL MAIN MEETINGS COMMENCE AT 7.45PM

Prior to the main meeting, from 7.00 – 7.40 , meet the local sector police officers, crime prevention advice, representatives from The Safer Bromley Partnership (Fire Brigade, Victim Support, Racial Equality Council, Neighbourhood Watch, Road Safety) local councillors and others.

Bromley Independent Advisory Group
The Group is an exciting local initiative intended to improve police and community relations. The success of the Group will depend on the dynamics of its membership. It is vital that the right, appropriate and committed people are appointed. Group members will be chosen both for the individual contribution and commitment they can make and the manner in which they reflect the diverse communities of bromley. The Group will consider the applications for membership. 

Role description:-

  • To work co-operatively within the Group to :-
  • Provide an effective partnership to improve community relations
  • Advise in the handling and resolution of Critical Incidents
  • Develop an anti-discriminatory local police service by identifying institutional discrimination and to develop ways to eradicate it
  • Review, and encourage improvement in, local delivery of police powers and procedures

Main duties of Group members :-

  • To regularly attend meetings of the Group
  • Bring your personal experience and knowledge to the Group
  • Give advice to police in accordance with the aims of the Group
  • Contribute to the discussion and written reports of the Group
  • Undertake, and contribute to, information gathering on behalf of the Group
  • Feedback information about the work of the Group to the diverse communities of Bromley

Person specification

Applications are invited from individuals. Membership of particular groups and organisations may be relevant to the contribution you can make, but it is not essential.

  • Be a resident of Bromley
  • Work in Bromley
  • Have knowledge of, and commitment to, issues of equality and diversity
  • Be able to work collaboratively with others towards the aims of the Group
  • Be able to work constructively with the police
  • Have an interest in local policing issues


Group members will have to declare any financial interests they may have in relation to paid work for the police service. Members will not use their position on the Group to advantage their own financial interest.

Group members will receive information relating to operational policing and critical incidents. This information would not ordinarily be in the public domain. Such disclosures made to members are subject to strict confidentiality. For this reason police criminal record checks will be carried out on those applying for membership of the Group. Previous criminal convictions may not exclude you from membership of the Group. Members of the Group will be actively encouraged to provide information to the community and media in accordance with the Terms of Reference.

Youth Group

The Metro Centre
Under 16s Welcome / Full Disability Access. Metro run three social groups: Tribe (16 and under) & Chillin’ Out (under 26) in Greenwich and SNAP, (under 26) in Bromley plus a youth counselling service, crisis support, drug and alcohol support and family therapy plus the Anchor Project working with suicide and self-harm.
