The Community Safety Unit (CSU) is responsible for the investigation of hate crimes within the Borough of Tower Hamlets. This includes racist crime, domestic violence, homophobic crime and hate mail. The unit is staffed by both male and female officers who are specially trained to deal with these crimes. The unit is committed to working in partnership with both the statutory and voluntary organisations in the borough to improve the quality of life for the residents.
Tower Hamlets has launched a third party reporting scheme whereby victims of hate crime can consult independent, trained staff without having to speak directly to a police officer of visit a police station.
