Homophobic crime reports in London

Good to see GayStarNews highlight homophobic crimes in London.

We have been tracking the figures for homophobic and transphobic crimes monthly and liaising with local groups to identify underlying causes. Hate crime is unacceptable.
To combat the incidence of hate crime, we are working with the police to increase the rate of reporting and to improve the flagging of hate crime by the police. This may appear as a rise in the crime statistics. The figures show a large variation across boroughs. We believe a rise in reports can be partly attributed to proactive work (e.g. a new and active LGBT Liaison Officer or local forum). A large drop in reports may be due to a lack of reporting.

Homophobic attacks in Vauxhall

We are working with Lambeth Police on the homophobic attacks in Vauxhall on June 7. Three people have been injured. The investigation is making progress. We hope that this will generate momentum for a crime and safety campaign in Vauxhall club venues.

An update on the investigation can be found at:

Update: One man has been arrested and charged for the attack.
