LGBT issues for policing in London

The LGBT Advisory Group hosted a meeting on LGBT issues for policing in London on October 16. More than 40 people from community groups attended the event. DAC Stephen Kavanagh gave a presentation on the new plans for local borough policing.

At a time of severe financial cutbacks, it is more important than ever for the LGBT community to communicate effectively with the police. There was wide support from participants for similar events in future.

It was great to have the opportunity to engage directly with a senior officer like DAC Kavanagh and discuss issues about LGBT liaison officers, consistency of service and training across wards and boroughs, and how the new local policing model affects our community. We were glad to hear the man in charge of operations for all the boroughs saying that Community Safety Units will remain a key part of local policing.
